The Newry Architect who designed much of Northern Ireland's iconic buildings, including Newry's Riverside Church and Belfast's Ulster Hall and the Albert Clock.
Join architectural historian Gerry Ward for an engaging talk exploring the brief yet prolific career of Victorian architect William Joseph Barre (1830–1867).
Born in Newry, Barre initially focused on local landmarks such as Hill Street Unitarian Church and Riverside Presbyterian Church before moving to Belfast, where he won prestigious commissions for the Albert Memorial Clock Tower and the Ulster Hall. Recognised as one of the most renowned architects of his day, he served as a Council Member on the Board of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland before his untimely death at just 37.
