The Trial of John Mitchel
By Anthony Russell
The Rostrevor Inn. Nov 10th. 7.30pm.
Anthony Russell’s humorous, informative, challenging and interactive drama will be performed by the Newpoint Players as part of the Rostrevor Literary Festival.
In the trial, the ghost of Irish rebel Tomas D’Arcy McGee (1825-1868), demands the statue of Irish Republican and slavery supporter John Mitchel (1815-1875) be removed from Newry.
Daniel O’Connell, the Liberator, who achieved Catholic Emancipation, is the witness for the prosecution. Mitchel’s wife, Jenny Verner, provides her husband’s defence. Judge Dionisius Cronos, present at the trial of Socrates, presides. You will be the jury, voting on the evidence in a secret ballot.
Tickets are free but must be presented for admission. They are available from Crawfords Bar, the Rostrevor Inn. Or call 028 417 39911. Or email info@sethlinder.co.uk
